I hate my job

I hate my job.There.I said it.Out loud.

I do not have the slightest clue as to what I am doing at this place.Quit you say?But I cannot do so.Working in a foreign country has its downs as well vis-a-vis some unwarranted work visa situations and such. But I am so waiting for the first chance when I can actually run away from this place officially.Officially because I do so every day in my head.

I want to do something else with my time.I am bored of being a software engineer.I want to explore other avenues. But I am not sure what I can do.I am supposed to be an excellent speaker and when it came to giving presentations or conducting training sessions,I was always the chosen one.So what can I do?What else can I do that would make me want to go to work instead of having to drag myself out at gun point?

Do tell.

babe - first of all *hugs* :-)) why dont u try the Consulting field?? It may give you more avenues to build on your public speaking skills and give you more insight into actual business too :-) This, from a person who was in a HR position till recently :-)I'm trusting my instincts and giving u this....damn, did I sound like I was talking to an employee??? *eyes rolling*

Yeah Management Consulting should be awesome for you. However, you may end up travelling 4 days a week and seeing your dear M only during the week-ends. Why don't you try to get into a nearby University. Like UTD or something. You could probably help with the marketing of their MBA programs or work in any University office. The pay will be a whole lot less but you'll get benefits like free college for children, faster H-1 and Green card processing, stress-free work till 5 and the opportunity to interact with young minds on an everyday basis. It would also be great to work in student retentiona and minority programs.

It's really important to do something you enjoy doing and getting up out of bed for, especially after you have kids and sleep becomes the most important thing in the world - trust me, I know...
But as far as new things go, there are so many options...if you like making presentations and are of a creative bent of mind, you could try design or advertising...if you enjoy hanging out with young people, maybe teaching...Maybe a managerial job - marketing or something - in a technical firm?
Try reading what colour is my parachute - it's supposed to help people figure out what they are good at and what they can do with their skills.
